KUALA LUMPUR: The FBM KLCI continued its three-day winning streak, ending at the day’s high on the back of a massive push in the final hour of trade.

At 5pm, the 30-stock index was 1.02% or 14.09 points higher to finish at 1,400.36, its intraday high.

The overall market breadth was positive with gainers outnumbering losers 566 to 272, while 368 counters were unchanged.

Total turnover stood at 2.4 billion units worth RM1.71bil.

Dealers said the buying support in selected index heavyweights at the last-minute sent the key index to close significantly higher today in line with regional markets.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 index ended up 1.42% and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index surged 1.82%.

South Korea’s Kospi closed up 1.36% while Singapore’s Straits Times Index rose 0.33%.

Meanwhile, the ringgit was quoted at 4.7160, up 0.02% against the US dollar.

Significant advancers on Bursa Malaysia include Malaysian Pacific Industries, which surged RM1.26 to RM26.66 and United Plantations, which gained 62 sen to RM14.50.

Carlsberg added 58 sen to RM22.46, Hextar Technologies rose 54 sen to RM6.29 and Kuala Lumpur Kepong gained 50 sen to RM20.70.

Among the decliners, Harrisons fell 19 sen to RM5.68, Advanced Packaging Technology lost 15 sen to RM2.52 and Hong Leong Bank eased 12 sen to RM20.48.
